Sarah's five fan fiction links

My links are on Harry Potter fan fiction :

1. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - Draco and Hermione
This story, based and structured around the events that occured throughout the original Harry Potter series, describes a scene where Draco is consoling a heart broken Hermione. Progressing towards the end of the story you become aware of the secret relationship that has flourished between the pair and that she has cheated on Ron. Not only were Ron and Hermione planning a wedding that has now been called off, hermione is also pregnant with Draco's baby.

The story line worked well because the author structured the ongoing events in relevance to the original  book. The descriptive language used was at an age level suited to 17 years and above and also made the read more enticing. I thought that overall the short story had an interesting twist and liked how the author created a dramatic ending leaving me wanting to read more.

2. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - Ted's First Christmas

This story is about the resulting after effects of the dealths of Andromeda's husband, daughter and son in law. Now caring for her daughters son, she is consumed with the constant reminder of her daughters death. Being to proud to ask for help, and also hating the pity that the weasleys and potter showed her, she was determined to live alone and in solitude. Harry was not only friends with lupin and Nymphadora, but is also the godfather their son Teddy. This story results in Harry asking if Andromeda and Teddy would like to spend Teddy's first christmas with Harry and his friends and family, Andromeda eventually saying yes. The twist is whether Andromeda truely wants to spend christmas with company or alone.

I found this story lacking any depth or descriptive language. The story line was not very interesting as the author wrote a very undramatic ending. Throughout the short story, the author described and explained the grief Adromeda felt for her family's deaths well.

3. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - Truth or Dare

This story is baed on the older generation of characters in the original Harry Potter books. Sirius creates a game called truth and dare between his friends at Hogwarts. These friends include Harry Potter's parents and also remus and peter. This game consists of all participants answering all truths honestly as the magic that Sirius used to make the game does not allow people to lie. Dares are to be done without refusal or the participants are dismissed from the game. The story ends with James being dared to stand on the ravenclaw tables and pretend he  is one of them.

The author structured this story in a way that made it easy to read and also flow easily. I found this story fun and enjoyable. There was less use of descriptive language in this story but more use of speech and quotes from the characters. To improve this short story the author could use more descriptive and emotive language.

4. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - Hermione's Last Year At Hogwarts

This short story is about the last year of Ron, Harry and Hermione at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The story starts with the point of view of the character, Hermione Granger. The war between the wizardry world is over and all is getting back to normal, hermione is setting out for her last year at Hogwarts. She receives a letter in the mail informing her that she has been selected to be the new head girl at her school. During the short story she explains her break up with ron and how he left her for lavender brown. As she hops onto the train to go to her scheduled metting with Ms Mcgonagall to be told of her duties as head girl she realizes that her former enemy Draco Malfoy is partnering with her as Head Boy.

I found that the author explained and described this story well, and liked how they used the point of view of hermione granger. The story could have been for carefully written and some of it did not make much sense, but i liked how there was a twist to the end, leaving me wanting to read more.

5. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - A Granger

This story is about Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Harry in their adult lives with there children many years after the wizard war. The short story sets at the Potter's house where ron is playing outside in the backyard with the children. Harry arrive back from the ministry in time for a family dinner and also help aid Ron in the battle that was accuring. Hermione arrives from the ministry later than Harry bearing happy news to share to the family. Sitting down at dinner she explains that not only does Hogwarts (School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) have weasleys and potters attending the school, but also her dads brother and cousin olivia will be attending Hogwarts in the next year. She has the pleasure to give her cousin her attending letter in person.

I loved how the author started the short story with an immense description of the setting. The language used made the story more interesting and enjoyable to read. The author structured the story well and there it was an easy enjoyable read.

  3. After reading your five fan-fic links, Harry Potter seems like an interesting read. Each link had a good summary explaining what it was about and who was in each story. All the links seem like they relate to each other which is good but it would have been nice if you could find links about Harry Potter and different characters. Even though Harry Potter is based around Harry, Hermione and Ron, It would of been nice to know about others in the story. Other than that, I like the link that is based upon Potters's parents. Overall, all links are good and I look forward to reading your draft & final.

    Job Well DOne.

  4. Late to the party (Hi everyone!) but loved the way you summarized each fan-fiction. HP is one of my fav stories ever but I usually find fan-fic annoying in the sense that I dislike how far the characters stray from their canon counterparts. However, after reading your summaries on each, maybe it won't be such a bad thing to give it a try :)

    Great stuff.

  5. Great work on summerizing each fanfic, i to don't like it when writers go in a direction that is totally unrealisitc to the character/plot or even the story itself. but then i guess thats the whole point of a fanfic huh? :) either way good job

  6. Very good summarizing of these fan fiction stories. It was easy to read through these summaries and I could understand quickly what the fan fiction stories were about. I'm also a big fan of Harry Potter so it's great to read about a range of different Harry Potter fan fictions. Keep up the good work and it would be interesting to read your own fan fiction on Harry Potter if you decide to do it on this.
